Flying type is one of the 18 Pokémon elemental types. Almost all Pokémon that are based on birds belong to this type. Pokémon which belong to this type are immune to Ground-type attacks under normal circumstances but are weak to Electric-type, Ice-type and Rock-type attacks. Meanwhile, moves of this type are super effective against Bug-type, Grass-type and Fighting-type Pokémon, as well as being able to hit any opponent in Triple Battles regardless of positioning.
Flying-type Pokémon are widely used because of their advantages on Fighting-type and Ground-type Pokémon, as well as being able to learn HM2 Fly, allowing players to quickly travel between major towns and cities. Most of them are also eligible to participate in Sky Battles. AnthianGym Leader Stephen specializes in Flying-type Pokémon.

Trivia
Almost all Pokémon belonging to this type are partly Flying, and have this type as secondary type.
Legendary Pokémon Tornadus and Arceus, when holding a Sky Plate, were the only pure Flying-type Pokémon until Gen 8, with Rookidee and Corvisquire joining them.
Corviknight, Flaminga, Noibat and its evolved form Noivern are the only partly Flying-type Pokémon that have this type as their primary type.
All damage-dealing Flying-type moves except Air Cutter can hit non-adjacent Pokémon in Triple Battles.
