Wild held items
Overview
For some Pokémon in the wild they can be found holding an item. This range from simple stuffs that can help you in battle to items that are crucial to complete a questline. Items have a 50% chance or a 5% chance to appear on certain Pokémon as a common or rare item respectively. With a few exception have a 100% chance to be found on other few Pokémon. These items cannot be stolen, used up after battle. the only way to getting these items is by catching those Pokémon.
Tips and Stratagies
There are many moves and abilities that can help you collecting these items easier:
When you have a Pokémon with the ability Compound Eye leading in the party (even while fainted) can raise the likelyhood of wild Pokémon holding an item. Increasing the chances from 50% and 5% to 60% and 20% respectively, thus making it an integral assest to finding the held items. When a Pokémon with the ability Frisk enters the battle it will reveals the opponent's held item and it won't activate when there's no item.
The combination of the two mentioned abilities is consider to be the most effective way to find wild held item. By having the first leading Pokémon fainted having Compound Eye ability following up with the second Pokémon having Frisk, players can easily track down the held item with boosted chance relatively quick without having to engage much in battle which save times.
Moves such as Thief, Covet, Knock Off, Trick, Switcheroo, Poltergeist, etc can also be used to check the wild Pokémon held item although it's not as efficient compare to using Frisk as they need an additional turn to use and often have further requierments and limitations (Thief, Covet, Knock Off and Poltergeist musn't knocking out their opponent as defeating the opponent means the item will be gone with as well; Trick and Switcheroo need the user to have an item equipped).

Here is a list of all posible items that can be found held by wild Pokémon in-game. When the Rarty shows 2 type of odds they refer to Odd without Compound Eye/Odd with Compound Eye respectively.
