Game Modes

Beginners only have this screen when they start their game. Once they have a save file, the question is replaced by a big "Continue" button. Other modes for More Adventures is only unlocked when players reach a certain point of the game.

Different Game Modes offer distinct sets of rules or experiences in the world of Roria. Players can interact with the "More Adventures" option that appears below the "Continue" option on title screen. It allows the player to access other game modes in separate save files.

Normal Mode

Normal Adventure Mode is the vanilla form of this game. It is the mode from which all other modes are based upon and it is still in development. Normal Mode is available to all players at the start of this game and has been since the game demo was released on 24th October, 2015.

Features

For players with a save file, a big green "Continue" button allows them to continue from their previous save point in Normal Mode, with "New Game" button shrunk to the lower right corner and the "More Adventures" option at the below.

More Adventures

Overview

In the "More Adventure" menu, players can get access to more save files that are separate from the main file, however they have added twists to give the players new experiences that regular Adventure Mode don't have. As of now there're only 2 selectable Modes players can select, with some have requirements to unlock.

There are a few main differences that these alternative game modes have compare to the Adventure Mode.

The section is opened for all players with Hardcore Mode being the only option to those who first started. Players who have at least 3 Gym Badges will get access to Randomizer Mode.

  • For players in other Mode, their numbers of Pokédex entries on players list will have different colours to contrast with the white numbers for players in Normal Mode. Players in Randomizer Mode will have their Pokédex numbers coloured blue, and in Hardcore Mode will have the numbers coloured red.
  • Players are not allowed to access Battle Colosseum and Trade Resort from the RTD. All services in Colosseum Marketplace, including BP Shop, Hyper Trainer, Move Deleter and Reminder are inaccessible, while Pokémon with Trade Evolutions cannot evolve.

Randomizer Mode

Randomizer Mode is the first additional game mode from "More Adventures" menu added in Version 15.4 on 13th November, 2017 for all players with Float Badge — the third Gym Badge in-game, from Rosecove Gym. This new game mode is stored in a completely separate save file, so the data in Normal Mode will not be erased. There is no change to the plot, but in this mode, as the name suggests, many of the Pokémon encountered will be totally random!

Features

  • There are 1013 Pokémon up to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available in this mode. Some Additional Forms and Species in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC , Pokémon Legends: Z-A + Mega Dimension DLC are not added yet.
    • Certain special forms of Pokémon currently disabled in Normal Mode are also not implemented in Randomizer Mode, such as Therian Forms for Forces of Nature, Keldeo's Resolute Form, Pikachu in a cap or Cosplay Pikachu.
    • Custom-made Pokémon such as Rainbow Bidoof and Red Heart Pikachu are not available.
  • Every Pokémon offered as Starter Pokémon in Mitis Town by Prof. Cypress and his assistant David, encountered in the wild, as well as those owned by Trainers are all randomized. These Pokémon retain the levels for those areas or encounters.
    • Pokémon are not randomized during Set Encounters (including Roaming Pokémon), waves and palm trees on Rosecove Beach, trees for Headbutt on Route 9, honey tree Route 10, or Pokémon found through Rock Smash.
    • Rivals Jake and Tess have randomized Pokémon when battling against them, but use their normal teams during Double Battles when they team up with the player.

Tips

  • Many Legendary and Mythical Pokémon have very low catch rates and can be difficult to capture with the few Poké Balls given by Jake at the start of the game. It is a good idea to avoid trying to catch any Legendary or Mythical Pokémon until players reach Poké Ball Emporium in Anthian City - Shopping District.
    • Ultra Beasts are also extremely difficult to catch because Beast Balls are not implemented.
  • Set-Damage Moves such as Sonic Boom and Dragon Rage can be very powerful at low levels, so starting with or catching early a Pokémon with one of these moves can be useful in early battles.
  • Some Pokémon are stuck with non-damaging moves like PsychicTeleport early on. Players will struggle a lot if they begin with these Pokémon.

Hardcore mode

Hardcore mode is the second additional game mode from "More Adventure" menu added in version 26.2 on 23rd May 2026 for all players at any given time in-game. This new game mode is stored in a completely separate save file, so the data in Normal Mode will not be erased. There is no change to the plot, but in this mode, as the name suggests, have increased difficulty that furthers challenge your capability as a Pokémon trainer!

Features

  • Every trainers will have Pokémons with 6x31 IV meaning they will have the strongest stat as possible.
  • Every trainers will have improved battle AI which will allow them to responds to any situation with the most effective move as possible and can retreat if they are in an unfavorable matchup.

Tips

  • With the inaccessibility of Battle Colosseum and Trade Resort, player will have a hard time building a good team than before due to these locations provide a lot of crucial improvement for them.
    • Pokémons that evolve via items that are exclusively available at Colosseum Marketplace and trading will preform more underwhelming as you are progressing further through the game. Thus it's not recommended using them when you are aiming to beat the Roria League.
    • Pokémons that are heavily reliant on the Move Tutor and TMs from the Marketplace will also perform worse due to unable to have access to moves that make them great.
    • Catching high level Pokémons can be more detrimental than catching a lower level one due to them may not have useful moves that they would learn at a lower level, which they cannot relearn due to the Move Reminder not being available.
  • With all opponents having their Pokémon with all stats max IVs being 6x31 you will feel them being noticably stronger, bulkier and faster compared to before. Thus it's recommended to always be prepared for even the regular battles as they can potentially cause casualty to your team.
  • With the improved battle AI, all trainers will act "smarter" compared to the vanilla version. They will use the attack that deals the highest possible damage, often times it's a super effective move. If their Pokémon have a move inflict Status Conditions (i.e. burn, paralysis, etc.) they will often use that move first if the Pokémon they're fighting can be affected by. When their Pokémon is at a type disadvantage or being low on health they won't hesitate to switch out if it would position them better.
    • Despite having more complex approach, players can still exploit the opponent's predictable patterns in many ways. If you think the opponent will attack often time it will be a super effective move or STAB move, thus you can switch a pokemon that can resist those moves to have a better lead.
    • If you anticipate the opponent to switch out their Pokémon, you can respond to this by using the opportunity to set up, or predict the Pokémon to attack or to switch on the same turn.
  • Any useful knowledges and strategies that players use in Adventure Mode can also be applied in Hardcore Mode as well.
    • Knowing your type matchup will always help you the best when progressing though the gamemode.
    • Set up moves such as Sword Dance, Calm Mind, Dragon Dance can help your Pokémon wipe out the opponents without risking more turns of taking damages.
    • In dire situation sometime it's neccesary to sacrifice one of your Pokémon to later reposition better.
